Oh, hey, check out my wiki!

This is another project I started last spring, abandoned, and am now resuming. The difference is that you or anyone else can contribute to it - it's a collaborative website. The most famous example of a wiki website is the online encyclopedia known as "Wikipedia".  "Nursing Notes"started out as a place to dump formulas - like corrected QTc, ABG calculators, and the like, just for my own reference.  Now, I'd like it to be a nursing reference site that anyone can use. It's definitely a work in progress!

Wouldn't it be nice to be in Savannah right now?

No snow. No ice. This picture is from the spring of 2007. I hope to get back there someday. I liked Savannah alot
not only because it's lush and green,
but because it's quirky and unique.
It's not a cookie-cutter "blandburg"-
it's definitely got it's own personality and culture.

Here's another picture from Savannah.

Hello from CT!

I'm still very tired, but I'd like to stay in touch and update everyone, so I'm going to reprint some stuff from my emails, with some added comments, to save energy.

"No problem. I was so busy myself! My final shift was
Tuesday into Wednesday. When I got out we had freezing rain, but the weather was only supposed to get worse, so I packed and drove back to CT right after work.

Fortunately, they had me staying in a Holiday Inn, and
I just wheeled my stuff on the luggage cart to the
underground garage. When I got back to sunny
Connecticut, I was too tired to sleep at first, so I
was up about 24 hours total.

I just made it through my 9A checkup and my tax appt
today, and I'm ready to go back to sleep!!!"

Note - leaving early turned out to be a good idea, even though it looked scary at first.  Conditions were pretty good by the time I neared Brattleboro, sunny in Taxachusetts, and sunny enough in Connecticut to really make me feel good about being back, despite the fact that CT radio STILL hasn't moved beyond Van Halen's "Flirting With The Devil", and other such moldy classics of 70's and 80's stadium rock.

First, I went to pick up my mail from my tenants, which included my tax forms. Then, I went to my storage room and got my folder of tax receipts, which had kind of morphed into an unorganized bag of receipts, over the course of the last year.

It was great to see my relatives again, and I kind of got my third wind, and spent waay too much time talking and showing them my pictures. I even had real estate ads; "Look what $229,000 buys up there! You wouldn't believe it!"

And then I crashed. BIG-TIME.

The next day, I was glad that I've been going to the same tax guy for many years. And his wife is a nurse, so he "gets it". I'm usually pretty organized and prepared. This time I must have looked like an escapee from a lunatic asylum, rather than the lovely Upper CT River Valley area, as I frantically toted up receipts in his waiting room, between appointments.  At least I had found a calculator in my DHMC nursing bag(right next to the pill-splitter!), which was still in the car. Receipts were falling off the coffee table onto the floor. The secretary looked concerned.

The good news is that he managed to calmly coax order out of the chaos. The bad news is that neither one of us could get my online W2 (which I had opted to recive, instead of a paper version) from Novapro to open. So, my taxes are still not technically finished, but we are 99% of the way there, and, with a little help from my recruiter, hopefully will be done by Monday.

I really want to just lie aound, eating chocolate ice cream, and doing nothing for another day, but there is more to be done.

"Hi Amy,
I just wanted to touch base with you on the remaining documents for you assignment at Swedish Medical Center. When will you be getting the drug screen and MMR done? Did you get a titer form from us to get the MMR done? If not let me know so I can send that to you and let me know where to send it to as well. Also there is a hospital test from Swedish that needs to be completed. You should have received information in your packet to go to their website to complete this test. The last page is a completion page that needs to be printed and sent to us. Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks. Have a good day.
Courtney"

I have a phone interview with my potential new landlord, who has nicely agreed to wait to talk to me when I am back to par, and sounding more like a neuro nurse, and less like a neuro patient.

Barb - you will be happy to know that I took your advice and "chose the middle route";

"Hi Mason,
I just accepted another sublet offer by email. I LOVED
the pictures of your house. It killed me to turn it
down! I have two coworkers who have both lived in
Seattle, and they both gave the neighborhood top
marks. But the other place was only $600/month, and I
decided to be more fiscally conservative.
Thank you for yout time. Good luck with your rental
and travel plans.
If for any reason this rental falls through, I'll
contact you, in case you are still looking for a
tenant.
Thanks again!,
Amy "

Rachel - you will be happy to know that I got turned down by "The Goblin House". (Yes, I went ahead and emailed them, after Googling them, finding a member's blog, and deciding they sounded more like quirky students, worrying about stats and bio exams, than homeless, meth-head Goths.)

Apparently, I'm not the only person crazy enough to answer an ad for a "crazy, communal house". ;-)

"hey all!
i am so sorry to get your guys' hopes' up... but my housemates found
someone to fill the spot at the Goblin house. i thought the person
wasn't going to work out so i posted the ad on craigslist. and then
the girl called us back and said she would take the spot.
thanks for your interest in living in a crazy house! i got SOOO many
emails about living here. i didnt know there were that many
adventurous people in seattle! after reading your emails i want to be
friends with all of you now :) feel free to keep in contact!
good luck on your housing searches!
-celessa"

My car is still mostly not unpacked. :-(

OTOH, I am very glad I'm not commuting in the ice and snow up there this weekend! All we're getting here is some rain.

Have a safe commute and a great weekend!

Martha Tilton - "A Little Jive Is Good For You" (1941)

Blog Names That Didn't Make The Cut

"Crazy Amy's House of Too Much Information" - Too long. And, you kinda' hadda' know that this was like my gangsta rapper name, man.

"Sleepless in Seattle" - Taken. Who'd'a thunk it?

"Amy's Crazy Blog" - Can we just get away from 'crazy', please? I'm trying to revamp my image.

"Sleazy in Seattle" - Sheer genius! I wish I could claim responsibility, but actually this was thought up by a very funny coworker who would probably wish to remain nameless. Clearly a coworker who is overwhelmed by my class. Or maybe my ass. Or something.

Vermont - What's Not To Love, I Ask You?

Well, O.K., there would be the snow, I guess. The ice, the cold - I could go on. But, where else could you randomly find something like this on a drive home from work?

What makes it even better is that A) This is a working barn, still being used, and B) No annoying billboards or other attempts to turn it into a tourist attraction.

It's amazing how some parts of this place are so picture-perfect that it's like Disneyland for crunchy, middle-aged yuppies, while at the same time it's the absolute antithesis of what I'll call 'Disneyfication'.

That's why I likes it. ;-)
